Nominate your neighbour!

Tell us about a random act of kindness in your community.

About the contest:

To celebrate Toronto Community Housing's 20th anniversary, TCHC is holding a call for stories from tenants across the portfolio.

We are asking you to nominate a neighbour who has done a random act of community kindness. Participants will be asked to describe the act and its impact on the community. We will choose five submissions and award a $100 honorarium (or equivalent gift card) to both the person who submitted the story and the person they are nominating.

Submission requirements:

The following questions should be addressed in all submissions:

  • What is the random act of community kindness you have seen?
  • Who is doing it?
  • How has it affected your community?
  • Has it inspired more random acts of kindness?

Contest rules:

  1. Submissions should be between 100 to 250 words.
  2. Photos are not required but are helpful. Please note that we may ask to organize a photography session if your story is selected.
  3. Participants must be current TCHC tenants over the age of 18. If you wish to participate or nominate someone under the age of 18, you (or they) will need a parent or guardian to sign a waiver.
  4. Participants in the submission will agree to be publicly acknowledged with the potential publication of the submission in TCHC materials, online and in print.
  5. You will need to submit your full name and contact details, as well as the full name of the person you are nominating for a Random Act of Community Kindness award.
  6. The act must be from 2022. If it started earlier, it must still be ongoing this year or must have recently stopped. For example, a breakfast club was started in 2015 but is still happening in 2022.

Deadline to submit is Friday, January 27, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.

Prize information:

We will choose five submissions and award a $100 honorarium (or equivalent gift card) to both the person who submitted the story and the person they are nominating.

Evaluation criteria:

  • The submission has addressed all of the questions and areas listed above.
  • Ideas and writing are clear and well-structured to communicate core ideas.

Winning submissions will be selected by a TCHC communications editorial committee. Tenants will hear back from Toronto Community Housing in mid-December.
