Be Build Brand

Be Build Brand (B3) is an 11-week entrepreneurship program that provides TCHC youth with a series of entrepreneurship training sessions to equip them with the hard and soft skills needed to start turning their ideas into viable business ventures.  To assist youth in starting their business the program offers exposure to relevant entrepreneurship content, industry quest speakers and capacity building opportunities. Participants get the opportunity at the culmination of the program to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges for a chance to win $5,000 seed  funds for their business venture, consists of three phases. B3- Phase 1 (Be) youth are given tools to learn how to provide an honest self-assessment and evaluation on their  aspirations. Phase 2 (Build), involve youth to undergo a series of training and capacity building on the basis of building a nosiness from the ground up. Phase 3 (Brand), teach youth the importance of networking, marketing and digitalizing their business idea.

Small Business Program

In collaboration with Tridel, APCC and Scadding Court Community Centre, the Revitalization team ran a Small Business Program (SBP) pilot offering resident business owners and future entrepreneurs low-barrier access to business training and short-term operating funding.

Twelve residents attended eight weekly sessions where they received information about branding, marketing, accounting, contracts, negotiations, customer service/UX, networking and pitching from professional instructors. The curriculum was developed in consultation with the community.

At the completion of the workshops, residents were able to apply for up to $1,500 of eligible expense reimbursements and receive additional supports to help launch businesses (e.g. registering businesses, accessing social procurement opportunities) or expand operations (e.g. funds for website development, supplies, liability insurance).

Learning from the pilot SBP will help inform future small business development programs in Alexandra Park, which will be funded with Phase 2 CED funds.
